Setup Guide
PocketNOC connects directly to your SolarWinds Orion server over HTTPS. Choose the connection method that fits your environment.
Connecting to Your Orion Server
PocketNOC needs a trusted TLS certificate on the server it connects to. If your Orion server uses the default self-signed certificate, you'll need one of these options to establish a secure connection.
RecommendedCloudflare Tunnel
Create a secure outbound-only tunnel from your network to Cloudflare. No inbound firewall ports, no domain required, free tier available. Best for most environments.
VPN
Connect to your corporate VPN first, then use PocketNOC as if you were on-site. Works if your Orion server already has a trusted certificate on the internal network.
Reverse Proxy with Let's Encrypt
Place a reverse proxy (Caddy, nginx, or Apache) in front of your Orion server to terminate TLS with a free Let's Encrypt certificate. Requires a public domain and inbound port 443.
Replace the Orion Certificate
Install a CA-signed certificate directly on your Orion server's IIS binding. No additional infrastructure needed, but requires certificate management on your end.
Account Setup
PocketNOC works with both local Orion accounts and Active Directory accounts. When using an AD account, log in with the down-level format (DOMAIN\username). Do not use the UPN format (user@domain.com) as it may result in limited data visibility.
